May 28, 2021 Zucchini and summer squash has popped through but no cucumbers

They actually popped through a few days ago.  Tonight I planted more cucumber seeds and butternut squash. I may end up planting a few plants if nothing comes up before I leave.

Germination for the zucchini was just 8 days!

I am glad I am around here at the beginning.

I will be gone actually 2 weeks in June, 2 weeks in July but around in August.

I have put down a lot of marigold seeds. I plan to spread the cosmos and rest of the marigold seeds this weekend before the rain.

Tomorrow I will fertilize the flowers for the first time.

The Dahlias bulbs have sprouted but not the ranunculus. Disappointed about that as I bought them for Jody and hoped they would be good. Got them from a good flower place so a little confused on that.

May 19, 2021 getting squash in. Made pots for the front.

I was up at 4 am and started in the garden at 8 am but that included a couple of errands.

8am planted the squash and cucumbers.  I also put marigold seeds all around the perimeter of the garden as well as along the fence by the Rowe's and then in the pine tree garden.

9am  Off to Trader Joe's and I got some peonies to remind of Alma these next two weeks, two dill plants, and a basil plant. Then I went to King Soopers and got more sweet potato plants, spikes for the front planters and a roma

Came home and planted bee balm, more cucumber seeds,  spring onion seeds, more lettuce (had seeds around) and dill plants.

Then I moved the front pots as well as a small pot that I did of impatiens and green to the shade  I just liked that pot, clay with come carving on it....

Off to Big Tool box for top soil, some cow compost and found chocolate tomato plant and cherry tomato.

Came home and did the youtube:   tomatoes in pots

tomato instructions:  60% top soil, 20% manure, 20%  peat moss. Mixed all up in the pots.

planted the peppers, tomatoes and basil.

Realized I had not put the bone meal in the tomatoes as instructed and thought I had to go out yet again. But we had bone meal, that was from 1997 when Betsy Rush helped me with gardening.

Exhausted.

But could not nap.  And small group tonight!

May 14- some petunias

I looked at last year's report and of all things, I planted the seeds on May 15.  I really thought I did it in April but I guess not. I am going to look at 2019 as well.

I planted another pot, a purple pot that Wilson gave me last year.  I used Ken's drill to put holes in the bottom.  Then I used up all the potty soil I had and filled the big blue pot in the back and planted petunias. I put some in the front of the garden too.

Waiting to water because the guys turned the water off again.

I need a lot more potting soil, two big pots for tomatoes, need to get a basil plant and also a sweet pepper plant.  More petunias for sure.

May 13, 2021- been away, house is a mess with renovations, it has snowed!

Well, today was one of those back achy days.  I had not done anything since left for Chattanooga.  But as planned, it snowed on the seeds, rained and they are sprouting nicely.

Wilson has mentioned to me that she is not seeing very many rabbits.  Yahoo!  I just put the decorative rabbits in the garden tonight.
While Ken and Tom were hurriedly tearing out the tile in our bathroom (my big surprise- not just the "kids" bathroom but the master is getting done thanks to Construction Angel Ken Hendren), I went to the garden and pulled the weeds then I went to the blue boxes and tugged and pulled at the rats nest potting soil in those boxes.  It's so old I got out most of the root mess and hopefully the petunias will do better this year.
Then I went to Walmart.  I spent about $100 and got many perennials, some potting soil, a hanging pot, geraniums.
Came home and got to work.

In the dirt, there are dahlia bulbs.  I thought there were reniculus also but I think they got lost. I planted 3 tublars in the garden behind the grill.  I marked those with little wooden sticks.
I also planted some gladiola bulbs and Black Eyed Susan bulbs along the fence.  I put in a number of perennials in the pine tree garden and experimented putting a Poppy in a hole that I filled with some good dirt.  I also planted a columbine in the NE garden.  There is a Poppy coming up but no blossoms, just leaves.  It is a shame that I don't get more money plants like Paula. Ever since Scott put in that fence, that year was the best for those little purple flowers, then the fence, then all gone.
