Off to Sicily Sept 25 2024

Last bouquet.  it has lasted a week.  There is one dahlia in there, in the back next to the Rio.

So the Baileys put up a nice fence

Yep, made more pickles.  Is it 25 jars now?

Today!

Got a beetle off that one

Have loved these zinnias

so excited about how I rooted these coleusus with Beau and Summer and they  have thrived

It came back!

September 13, 2024. I hate the beetles

This is what I had getting home from Malaga. Thank you, Laura and Carol

Japanese beetles don't like this one

2 spaghetti squash

Love these Rios

Just love this garden

More Zinnas next year

Laura picked and blanched these

So here was the dahlia a week ago.  I drown about 20 beetles that were inside it. Ugh. so mad

August 28, 2024

Such a weird thing to not have known about this.  The guys had left something on the door but Anne had taken it so people wouldn't know we were away.

Just thrilled with the flower garden

One dahlia will open before I leave

Ugh. Claudette helped me get all these beetles.  Laura said they wouldn't come on the bush beans but they certainly did

Made more pickles today.

Tomatoes doing great.  I'll get heirlooms before we leave for Spain

August 12, 2024

As of today, I've made 12 jars of dill pickles.  I make just a few jars at a time, trying to have fresh cucumbers.  Today I made three that are supposed to not be refrigerated but I am still a little afraid about that.

It's been great having dill weed

And so glad I planted bush beans as Laura F told me too. I eat them raw and the kids ate them too.  Summer's beans have not grown yet.

Hoping that one zucchini will get big enough for a zucchini boat.  But zucchini are just pathetic. There is a little lettuce, believe it or not.

This will be for the only zucchini boat we'll have.

I've made 10 zucchini breads, I think.  Maybe a few more.  Made  blueberry yogurt, lemon yogurt, traditional with yogurt, double chocolate.

no summer squash, no mini pumpkins.  I guess I'll pull the carrots.

What are these?  I tell you the wrong seeds "pepper-gate" has apparently affected a lot of people but this is most confusing

Cooked the beans tonight. They are good even raw.

August 8 2024 a big cool down

I have to say that the garden that has done the best except for slow dahlias and the hydrangea died, zinnia seeds did great and the small dahlias from Walmart were very lush.  Other seeds worked as well.

But the zucchini, small ones that did not grow.  Cucumbers are coming in and hiding but I have made 9 jars of pickles. Even the canned ones that popped are in the refrigerator.

I will not buy peppers or from Walmart again.  The peppers were labeled mini peppers but all are poblano.  I made one recipe, stuffed with rice and meat, but not sure what else to do with them.

Green beans have been good.  Only a few Japanese beetles on them but more on the cosmos. Thankfully not too many in Mama's Garden.

The impatiens at the north did great.  I've made about a dozen zucchini breads.  Tom has filled the freezer so not much room for those

9 jars so
far

from seed

from seed. so big and nice to see them through the window

This dahlia probably doing the best

from seeds

powdery mildew has since set in

I cut the tops of the coleus in the blue boxes and rooted these two

This calla Lily survived, not the purple one

A new lily in Mama's garden

Love these Rios

And heirloom tomatoes!
