July 25 2024

I had some good dill pickle size cucumbers as well as fresh dill that actually is being taken over by the zucchinis, so made 2 jars of refrigerator dills. I am rather nervous about actually canning pickles.

We put cayenne pepper on the zucchinis that are growing because I think a raccoon is going after them. The pepper seems to work.

The tomatoes are doing fairly well. Slow to change from green to red but we've had a few.  I really feel sad about the whole compost thing.

Happy about those big heirlooms that Summer is pointing to.

The 4 big sunflowers from seeds have delighted me since I don't know if the hydrangea or the delphinium will survive.  But it is fun to watch the head of the sunflower follow the sun every day.

I have killed some Japanese beetles and they've gotten into the bush beans that Laura F. said they did not like bush beans only pole beans.

July 20th 2024

I planted this lettuce, well, maybe in mid June. I won't plant any more although, um maybe as it is getting cooler.  I wonder if the compost really messed up my soil this year. I was so hopeful.  Or have I fertilized too much?  Plants look healthy but little fruit.

These impatiens have been a big success
Mama's Garden has filled out! and look at that seed sunflower

So here is the garden. There was a bee or something in the zucchini but I don't think it was pollinating.

July 12, 2024 Beans popped

Summer planted these just one week ago.  I sure hope what Laura Flanders told me is true that the darn Japanese Beetles don't like bush beans

First zucchini.  Hope it survives us being gone

I love these dahlias I got at Walmart

The sunflower has not opened yet.and will the hydrangea survive

This was from a seed but I forgot what seed

The chamomile mint tea is very good

Disappointing July 8, 2024

No hail this year but it seems the garden is just not growing very fast.  The peas were tough on the outside and good on the inside.  Summer cut and opened many of them

Beau pulled those out and we planted bush beans because Laura Flanders said that the Japanese beetles would leave them alone.

I think I made a mistake. We got compost but not soil.  We mixed  but probably not enough.  Janet Barger gave me canning stuff but will I get cucumbers.

The hydrangea is really looking bad so is one salva and the poppy. Maybe something will happen next year.  But Mama's Garden looks pretty good for the first year.  Need more perennials for sure.

The tomatoes look fine although they had a fungus after I came back from Lake City.

The plant I loved this year from Home Depot was Rio.  Just blooms and blooms and no dead heading.

I planted geraniums at the front door but they are doing nothing. Why? It's the compost. What we should have gotten, I think is garden soil. Not sure why Laura really likes that compost
On July 6, Summer and I planted another row of green beans.
I picked dill and dried it. I'll have to buy some if I can make pickles.
The lettuce was good this year.

just not growing fast ugh

very slow dahlias

2 never sprouted so Swan Island is replacing them next year

Rio, dahlia, Rio

This was a good move, mint and chamomile tea

daily perennial

Laura said this is a zinnia. It was from seed

Hope to see a sunflower in 10 days  maybe
I like these little dahlias from Walmart
