Orange peels cooked

 Saw this on Instagram.

Boil and strain. It's concentrated so add water and this apparently even keeps pests away

August 22 2023

I got home from Cincinnati last night.  Glad I came home

a busy day.  Made two jars of bread and butter pickles, more dill, two kinds of zucchini bread. The blueberry one and then the double chocolate with walnuts.  I always use Greek yogurt

Please open!

One of the big dahlias.  So love those red ones  that are behind the bigger ones

Last night when I got home from Cincinntai

August 15, 2023 Seems like cucumbers and zucchini are just stopping and something is eating Zs

Hoping to see these dahlias this weekend

One green pepper, that's it

Different color tigridia.  darn Japanese beetles attack them

I don't think watered down here.  They looked dead yesterday

something is eating the zucchini.  And they are getting tough

Tom took all the peas off and pulled out the plants

August 12. Wow, 30 tomatoes, 4 zucchini and more coming

And I was worried about making pickles.  I fertilized the pots on Friday night as well.  I think I will see a couple dahlias before I leave.  The veggie garden looks wild.  The two hail-damaged tomato plants are growing.  I picked some lettuce.  Decided I needed to make zucchini bread.  I just kept making things.

Zucchini bread to take to CA

so happy I got to see this bloom

Even have tomatoes
Today was a marathon day.  I got up at 6am.  Instead of riding my bike, I made the pickle water.  I doubled the recipe.  I let it cool until 11.  I needed more dill.  So got that at Walmart, came home and did more pickles.   I have 13 jars  This might be all I make.   I also made that cucumber dill salad.  I was "if you give a mouse a cookie,"  as I just kept going.  Noticed the basil so made pesto.

Sorry to miss this rose

first small cukes, red dahlia surprise July 28 2023 and a white rose and 9 rose buds!

Maybe I can make some pickles before Chattanooga

I am rather proud of myself that this fern was from LAST Year.  I kept it alive all winter and it thrived this summer!
So so excited about my first dahlia=didn't know I bought this one

My garden helpers.  We watched it grow.  I am going to make a stuffed zucchini

The cukes looks healthy, but... very slow

I think we've gotten 10 zucchinis.  Made agave, greek yogurt and chocolate bread, 4 big loaves

More tigredia!
There are 9 coming roses!
Tomatoes doing well
Glad I kept the tag.  Never had this tomato before

Early bird---not early this year

So love these two kiddos!

July 22, 2023 Lots happening and more rain and hail

Glad to see some snap dragons

The tigridia bloomed and lived one day. Then ANOTHER showed up 5 days later

Made a great basil pesto

What darn critter did this?  As a result, I picked two others, made zucchini yogurt chocolate agave bread and had zoodles for dinner.  I have covered with wire and some cloth the summer squash and the 2 zucchinis that are growing.
Why can't I grow sunflowers???  These are all over Dartmouth on my bike ride.

Beau picked and shelled the peas.  I am going to write a book, "Sweet peas for Summer" as she was being Sal in "Blueberries for Sal"  as she kept eating them as Beau shelled the peas

We continue to have rain.  We've had a few wild thunderstorms.  I had a very low water bill. Part of the US and Europe are burning up and all I hear about is climate change but it is very nice here.  It did get to 97 on the 17th  but that was the first day.  I need heat for those tomatoes.  Beau checked on them and is disappointed they are not turning red.
